In a pair of rulings that will potentially reshape the regulatory landscape, the U.S. Supreme Court permitted the President to fire the heads of independent agencies—while carving out a notable exception for the Federal Reserve.  On June 29, 2026, in Trump v. Slaughter, No. 25-332, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the Federal Trade Commission’s “for-cause” removal provision violated the Constitution’s separation of powers.

On April 23, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (“CFTC”) announced separate enforcement actions against an active-duty member of the U.S. Army, alleging that the soldier utilized non-public information regarding classified U.S. operations related to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to trade on Polymarket.com, a prediction market website.

On March 26, the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) announced that a California-headquartered healthcare provider, Seoul Medical Group Inc. (“Seoul Medical”), its former president and majority owner, and a Seoul Medical subsidiary were ordered to pay over $62 million for violating the False Claims Act.  According to the DOJ, Seoul Medical allegedly submitted false diagnosis codes to increase payments from the Medicare Advantage Program.  A radiology group that also worked with Seoul Medical agreed to pay $2,350,000 for allegedly conspiring with Seoul Medical.
